Abstract

The study examines the influence of local overheating in the joint area between the cylinder cover and the cylinder liner on their stress–strain state and the gas-joint tightness of forced medium-speed diesel engines (MSDEs) with a suspended cylinder liner design. The aim of the work is to evaluate the effect of various additional local cooling configurations applied to the structural elements forming the engine’s gas joint on their thermal loading and sealing performance. Based on a three-dimensional finite element analysis, the numerical investigation produced temperature, deformation, and stress fields for the components of the considered cylinder cover–liner module of an MSDE. Recommendations are provided to improve the cooling efficiency of the gas-joint zone and enhance its reliability under engine boosting (forced operation).

Abstract

The collection and transportation of municipal solid waste are critical initial stages of the entire waste management system. Environmental safety, economic costs, and the possibility of subsequent recycling depend on their effective organization. Separate waste collection is one of the most important ways to further process waste. Improving the design of garbage trucks designed for separate waste collection, increasing their efficiency, and reducing their cost is an urgent and important task for urban management. This article discusses methods for compacting plastic waste, including a new method that will be used in the design of garbage trucks in the near future. The combined seal provides a higher plastic waste seal factor and a lower modulus of elasticity compared to the progressive seal.

Abstract

The use of different types of bulldozer dump designs allows you to diversify the range of bulldozer equipment and ensure the most productive mode of operation. Additional structural features can also contribute to the accumulation of the volume of the drawing prism, for example, the expansion of the dumps due to additional side walls, an increase in the length of the blade blade or the area of the upper flaps. The article examines the dependence of the volume of the drawing prism, which accumulates in the blade, and directly affects the performance of the bulldozer unit. The authors investigated four types of bulldozer dump designs in order to increase the productivity of existing machines. The method of experimental studies performed on model samples of bulldozer dumps, designed on the basis of real ones, in accordance with the theory of similarity used in modeling, is described. The ratio of the masses of the prisms collected by different designs of experimental dumps has been established, and the purity coefficient has also been determined, reflecting the accumulation of material on the surfaces of the blade, indicating the additional cost of the power source of the machine. The study found that the use of new forms of bulldozer dumps is quite acceptable on existing equipment.

Abstract

This article presents a methodology for finding the center of mass of individual mobility aids (SIM) to improve the sustainability of this type of means in the future. Three methods of finding the center of mass for an electric scooter were presented: the area method, the weighing method, and the 3D-modeling method. In addition to electric scooters and other SIM devices, this technique is also suitable for finding the centers of mass of most single-track vehicles. The popular private folding electric scooter KuGoo S3 was used as a test object, which has an average frame design, soundboard, braking mechanisms, drive type and weight. During the work, the full-scale dimensions of the electric scooter were taken and a 3D-model was created in a CAD program with an imitation of a real SIM, in addition, full-scale tests were carried out using the second method of finding the center of mass in order to find and compare the relative and absolute errors in calculations and comparing different methods. To create a digital twin, the popular SolidWorks 2023 CAD system was used with pre-installed tools for finding the center of mass of both an individual object and a complete assembly, each individual element has its own mass and its own material.

Abstract

The results of a study of the force interaction between a tracked drive and the ground are presented. It is revealed that the classical design approach, aimed at increasing the number and height of lugs, is not optimal. An improved calculation method is developed that takes into account the uneven load distribution along the track and the two-phase nature of soil failure. Rational relationships between the geometric parameters of the lugs are established, allowing for an increase in the traction coefficient. A significant influence of the load history of the tracked drive on the traction force is demonstrated.

Abstract

Using the example of the technological process of repairing hydraulic hammers, the article discusses the issues of formalization of the first stage of technological preparation of production – the analysis of structural and technological uniformity of products. The coefficient of structural and technological uniformity is proposed, its semantic content is revealed and the calculation method is given. Experimental data on the technological processes of repairing hydraulic hammers of seventy models, the grouping of products according to structural and technological features and the assessment of the coefficients of their structural and technological uniformity are presented. The transformation of the technological processes of hydraulic hammer repair with an increase in production volumes is considered. The complexity of repairs for production programs from current to increased by 4 times is calculated. The reduction of labor intensity is justified due to the specialization of workplaces (limiting the number of hydraulic hammer models repaired at one workplace) and the use of more productive technological equipment. Two-factor power-law dependences of the coefficients of structural and technological uniformity of hydraulic hammers on their mass and the repair production program are obtained.

Abstract

Currently, there is a high growth in the volume of transportation of bulky and oversized equipment in the world. This is due, among other things, to the need to transport components of the construction, oil and gas production and processing industries. For the transportation of oversized cargo, it is mandatory to use specialized transport, which includes special fasteners and mechanisms that allow safe and fast loading and unloading operations, as well as minimize the risks of cargo damage. Unfortunately, the possibility of using remote-controlled self-propelled transporters to solve this problem has not been fully studied. In this regard, the purpose of this study is to design and simulate a self-propelled platform for transporting oversized cargo with a hydraulic system. The general methodological basis of the study was a systematic approach. Development of a geometric and simulation model to test the platform design in the SolidWorks computer-aided design system (hereinafter CAD SolidWorks). In the Simulation module of the SolidWorks CAD, a model was developed and simulation modeling was performed to test the platform structure according to the criteria of stress, displacement and deformation. To assess the reliability of the proposed design, the type for each of the possible failures was determined, the probability of occurrence of each of them was determined, a failure tree was constructed, and the probability of a general platform failure was determined.
