"FORMS OF COGNITION" AND THE PSYCHE
Abstract
In the article, the author examines the role of elements of the psyche, such as sensation, perception, representation, concept, emotion, attraction and purpose in the cognitive process. The author believes that the use of the terms "forms of sensory cognition" in relation to sensation, perception and representation, and "form of rational cognition" ‒ to the concept is unjustified. The article substantiates the point of view that considers sensation, perception, representation and concept as elements of mental reflection. The author also considers emotion, attraction, and purpose as necessary elements of cognitive activity. The author proves his point of view through a logical analysis of the concept of "system", shows the logical forms of subordination of the part and the whole. And he concludes that mental reflection in its entirety includes the knowledge of reality, its assessment and direct control of human activity. The psyche evaluates what is felt, perceived, imagined, and understood. Emotional reflection is a positive or negative assessment of the known, determined by whether the known is accepted as contributing to or hindering the satisfaction of needs. Emotion is an assessment. It is a reaction to a sensation, a perception, a representation, a concept. These elements of the psyche are not contained in the emotion, but cause it.
