ASPECTS OF DRIVES POWER ELECTRONICS EVOLUTION

Abstract

During the last decades, production technologies of electronic components have made a significant headway. It has become possible to use power and microprocessor electronics in the drive and power systems, which initiated the development of modern electric motor control systems used on electric vehicles. Evolution of components has allowed to create various devices starting with integrated alternator and ending with serial production electric vehicles. Particular attention is paid to semiconductors based on silicon carbide and gallium nitride, which allows to reduce such critical parameters of electric vehicle as the weight and overall dimensions of the electrical equipment. This article presents the modern development trends of electronic industry related to the drive systems for electric vehicles. The article consists of two sections. The first section describes the retrospective of power electronics. The second section deals with power electronics potential future perspectives.
