Difficulties in developing democracy in post-soviet states
Abstract
The article deals with the most important categories of science and academic discipline "Political Science": political power, political and state regimes, political democracy, electorate and legitimacy, oligarchy, authoritarianism, imitation democracy, elections and opposition. The purpose of the article was defined by the author as an attempt to identify the main reasons for restraining the process of democracy development. Therefore, the objectives of the study are the following aspects: general characteristics of the sphere of politics of the CIS countries in the early 1990s; the main features of young states and elites, societies of transitional states from the Soviet type by the turn of the 2000s; analysis of new post-Soviet elites; the main reasons for the establishment of authoritarianism and ethnocratic, oligarchic regimes in a significant part of the CIS and the containment of systemic democratic changes. The development of democratic norms, institutions and culture of citizens, political competition and ideological diversity, independent media, public initiatives has not had a stable trend all these years after the collapse of the USSR.
