It is shown that it is impossible to fulfill foreign requirements for the minimum value of the deformation modulus on the subgrade surface when using the calculated values of the soil elasticity moduli used to calculate pavement. The approximate permissible boundary values of the optimum moisture content of clay soils in fractions of the yield strength have been analytically determined. The assessment of normative tolerances for the optimum moisture content of clay soils and the expected modulus of elasticity of soils, which can be provided during the construction of the subgrade, using domestic guidelines for the design of road pavements.
