В статье приводится подробный анализ варьирования модального значения глагола may в двух типах профессионального дискурса. Выводы и примеры, полученные в результате исследования, могут быть использованы и на практических занятиях по обучению профессиональному переводу, и в лекционном курсе по теории перевода для будущих инженеров, обучающихся по дополнительной профессиональной программе «Переводчик в сфере профессиональной коммуникации (ППК)».

The article deals with variations in modal meaning manifested by may in two types of professional discourse. The resulting conclusions alongside with may usage examples are addressed to future engineers studying professional translation in the course of “Translator in the Sphere of Professional Communication”.
